I am researching my husband's family and his grandfather was
born in Koma tou Yialou.
This is the only information I have about him.
Sotiris Tofalli
Arrived in New York on October 28, 1907 at the age of 21 which
means he would have been born around 1886. He traveled on the
ship Europa from the departure city of Napoli.
Here in the US he used the name Sam Christ. We are not sure why.
In one document we have his last name listed as Christodoulos.
We believe his brother was Philip (at least that was the name
used in the US) The name of his parents were probably
Christophes Tofallis and Xenou Nicolaou. He said that he was
orphaned and was raised by the village priest. Perhaps, either
the name Tofallis or the name Christodoulou belonged to the
people who raised him. Both he and his brother passed away years
ago and we are trying to recreate his heritage so that we can
pass it on to our children.
Do you have access to any records that would give us more
information or can you put us in touch with an email address for
an English speaking person who might be able to help us? My
Greek is very limited so would need to communicate in English
for the most part.
I would be most indebted to any help that you might be able to
give me.
